Brecksville was your team champions at the 2012 Brecksville Holiday Wrestling Tournament. The Bees,
who entered the tournament ranked #25 in the nation, finished almost 60 points ahead of the 45 team field which included another nationally ranked team from Michigan.
Brecksville put an explanation point on their performance by going a perfect 5-0 in the evening's final session, including three individual champions. Winning individual titles were 106 pound sophomore Austin Assad, 113 pound senior Aaron Assad, and 170 pound senior Quinton Hiles.
Austin Assad was dominate the entire tournament. Assad did not give up an offensive point in his five wins along the way to his championship. Austin had an 11-3 major decision in the semi-finals over a returning Fargo All-American, and won by fall in the finals.
Aaron Assad rolled into the finals. He had a fall in the second round over a returning Brecksville place-winner, he won an 11-1 major decision in the quarter-finals over a returning state place-winner, and he won in the semi-finals over the #2 ranked wrestler in Ohio. 113 was the feature match of the finals at is showcased Michigan's nationally ranked undefeated state champion and returning Fargo All-American. Aaron dominated the finals match and came away with a 10-5 decision to win his second individual Brecksville title. Aaron's performance earned his the tournaments Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Quinton Hiles had the toughest road to his title. Hiles defeated a returning state place-winner in the quarter-finals 8-4 to move to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals Hiles defeated Ohio's division three returning state champion 6-3. In the finals Hiles defeated Ohio's division two returning state champion by major decision 11-3. (Note: Hiles finished second in the MVP voting).
Brecksville had eight total place-winners including the three champions. Also placing for the Bees were junior Josh Murphy who came in as the 7th seed and finished 3rd at 195 pounds, junior Austin Strnad who came in unseeded and finished 5th at 152 pounds, senior Austin Linden who finished 7th at 220 pounds, sophomore Sonny Lucas who came in unseeded and finished 8th at 138 pounds, and junior Troy Lang who came in unseeded and finished 8th at 182 pounds.
Also winning matches for the Bees at the Brecksville Holiday tournament were; 106 pound freshman Jarod Bronstrup, 113 pound sophomore Frank Montini, 120 pound sophomore Matt Topoly, 120 pound junior Tommy Thornton, 132 pound junior Grayson Davis, 145 pound junior Sal Straziuso, 152 pound sophomore Joe Dimitrijevs, 160 pound senior Danny Pushpak, and 285 senior Rich LeAnza.
