    BRECKSVILLE WINS TEAM TITLE AT THE BILL DIES MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

    For the fifth consecutive year Brecksville won the team title at the Bill Dies Memorial Tournament. This year the Bees put up 255 team points... 109 points a head of the second place team who scored 146 points.

    The Bees got off to a good start on day one, for the first time they advanced all fourteen wrestlers to the second day of the event. The second day started even better as Brecksville went 8-8 in the quarter-finals. After pushing three into the finals, the Bees followed with a 6-6 consolation semi-final round.

    Brecksville went 3-3 in the finals giving them three champions for the second time at the Bill Dies (2007: Kyle Lang, Pat Zamaria, Mike Pushpak). Sophomore Austin Assad won the title at 106 pounds. Austin did not give up a point in any of his six matches! Next up was brother Aaron Assad who won the title at 113 pounds. Aaron dominated his way into the finals, where he had to come from behind with a dramatic last second takedown to win his title. Aaron's preformance earned him the Most Outstanding Wrestler award. That's back-to-back most outstanding wrestler awards for Aaron (Brecksville Tournament and Bill Dies Tournament).

    Brecksville's other champion was sophomore Sonny Lucas. This was the first finals appearance for Lucas in high school. Lucas made the most of it was a 5-0 victory giving him the title at 138 pounds.

    Other place-winners for Brecksville were; 132 Junior Grayson Davis (3rd Place), 160 Senior Danny Pushpak (3rd Place), 170 Senior Quinton Hiles (3rd Place), 182 Junior Troy Lang (3rd Place), 195 Junior Josh Murphy (3rd Place), and 220 Senior Austin Linden (4th Place).

    Contributing to the team score for the Bees were; 120 Sophomore Matt Topoly, 126 Freshman Andres Aguirre, 145 Sophomore Joe Dimitrijevs, 152 Sophomore Jimmy Suhayda, and 285 Senior Rich LeAnza.

    The Bees Varsity "B" team was also in action this weekend as they competed in the Firelands Varsity Tournament. Brecksville was led by two champions. 106 Freshman Jarod Bronstrup, and 182 Freshman Eddie Sternad. Other place-winners for Brecksville at the Firelands Tournament were; 106 Junior Devon Johnson (2nd Place), 113 Sophomore Frank Montini (2nd Place), and 120 Junior Tommy Thornton (3rd Place).
