What an amazing finish!! The Brecksville High School wrestling team capped off an incredible season with a State Runner-up Team finish!
Brecksville's 144.5 points scored at the state tournament was the second most points ever scored by a state runner-up team.
The Bees who qualified a school record TEN state qualifiers, and had a school record EIGHT state place-winners were led by a school record THREE individual State Champions!
Sophomore Julian Tagg became the school's first ever 2x State Champion. Julian who was the state champion in 2017 at 106lbs moved up two weight classes to 120lbs were he took home his second state title.
Junior Gabriel Tagg brought home the state championship at a 132lbs winning his title match by major decision (11-3) over his opponent from St. Edward High School. Gabe is now a 3x state place-winner, 2x state finalist and a state champion.
Freshman Victor Voinovich became the school's 10th state champion, and the 2nd freshman to win an individual title (Julian Tagg 2017). Voinovich came out on top of a loaded bracket that featured four nationally ranked wrestles. Voinovich became the biggest freshman in the history of Ohio High School wrestling to win a big school state title.
Also earning All-Ohio honors by getting on the state podium were;
Senior Andrew Perelka... 3rd place at 113lbs.
Junior Marco Regalbuto... 3rd place at 138lbs.
Junior Jack Stanely... 4th place at 106lbs.
Sophomore Jimmy Carmany... 4th place at 126lbs.
Senior Zach D'Anna... 8th place at 220lbs.
Both Regalbuto and D'Anna earned their second consecutive state placement... Regalbuto was 5th in 2017 and 3rd in 2018 while D'Anna was 8th in both 2017 and 2018.
Also qualifying to the state tournament for Brecksville were Freshman Ben Vanadia (152lbs) and Sophomore Ethan Hatcher (170lbs)... Hatcher and Carmany both made their second trips to the state tournament.
